We write essays on current affairs, aiming to integrate views from different
fields and to develop practical novel paths for matters of common interest
and urgency.
Besides writing on current affairs, Georg Engeli also writes literature - with
and without Mr. Fivehair illustrations, for example:
-
The candidates - an illustrated
novel. The story is about Mr. Fivehair and five of his colleagues being invited
to an assessment center of their 'system' (company, NGO, association, society,
union, etc). During several days they must undergo a series of games and
tests designed to identify the future candidate leader for the system. As
the endeavor evolves, the shadows of each candidate, of the system itself
and of its senior representatives emerge - soon, it is unclear who is testing
whom, and according to which criteria. The story is about the structural
dilemmas of transforming an existing system while complying with its values,
mechanisms and explicit rules. Before long, nothing is anymore as it seemed.
Mr. Fivehair seems to repetitiously make a fool of himself - and thus,
involuntarily, stumbles into rather unusual solutions.
-
The story of Francis of Assisi - told
in parallel in the 13 th and 21st century. The story is about the struggles
of finding a new, authentic way of living in the world in times when the
old systems of knowledge and power have begun to decline, defending their
might against new emerging ideas. The 21 st parallel story illuminates the
opportunities, dilemmas and shadows of those who have set out to integrate
spirituality with reality. It unearths the tensions between creating new
communities - and yet, needing conventional means to grow and maintain
them. It talks about the seemingly opposing energies of leadership in
such times of global change. In mythological terms, the story describes
the way of the hero and is, in that, not limited to the specific religious
faith of this particular man.
-
Gaspar Monrey - the story of a Jesuit
priest meeting the last king of the indigenous people in an Andes valley,
told in parallel in 1583 and today. The story is about the clash between
two worlds, their mutual fascination and the hidden consequential impacts
of living together in a limited physical and mental territory. It tells how
the representatives of each world deal with their own inner contradictions
when they face the strange otherness of the other. The 21 st parallel story
illuminates also the ongoing tensions between the Center and the Periphery - in
the different geographical and mental territories of our present reality.
-
Nathalie's lie - novel story of an
investigation in a multinational corporation. The story is about the creation
and protection of taboo zones in a large system, and how different stakeholders
deal with the Bluebeard Chamber which they have access to or suspect to be.
It illuminates the moral dilemmas of an organized and production-oriented
collective and its individual members. The main character - a young woman
called Nathalie - has come across the Shadows in the corporation's Bluebeard
Chamber, and is torn between setting out to what she thinks is right,
or what serves her own purposes. In any case, however, she is bound to
lie.
-
Blue Marp - musical manuscript.
The story is about a man's amazing career in a transnational company, living
unconsciously the myth of the hero and trying, at literally all costs, to
avoid it. Oscillating between different worlds, the main character - Harvey - first
develops some sort of schizophrenia as a way to remain mentally sane.
Inevitably, he nears the decisive moment where he must take a decision
which, no matter where he turns, will damage others.
