6. Engagement principles
1. Integrity
2.
Involvement
3. Whom we do not work for
Integrity
Integrity - as we understand it - has a double meaning:
- Ethical values and the dual firmness to stick to them also under adverse
circumstances (virtue of steadfastness), and not to exempt them from doubt
(virtue of self-examination). We count on the partners of our work to value
and exercise both, as we ourselves do.
- Wholeness and the dedication to quest it even when faced with the tempting
opportunities that a fragmented reality may offer for the partisan advancement
of individuals and collectives.
Involvement
The nature and form of our work requires the active involvement of the leaders,
decision-makers and their groups whose undertakings we support. This involvement
encompasses all stages of the work, and reflection and action alike. By consequence,
- We are not a suitable outsourcing partner
- We do not accept factual or emotional delegations that would ultimately
impair the integrity of the delegating party - even if such delegations
are made unconsciously and unintentionally. Our work points to the opposite
direction of increasing awareness and autonomy.
Whom we do not work for
While we do not pursue a 'kindred spirit' approach in the sense of working
only with those who think alike, we do not support individuals and collectives
when the following applies:
- Partisan politics in any area - but we may help to surmount it
- Illegal or illegitimate purposes - buy we may help to abandon such
practices under the rule of law
- Dishonesty or manipulation of internal and external stakeholders - but
we may help to change such patterns
- Willingness to tolerate, sustain or proliferate harmful practices - but
we may help to change the course
- Violence
- Intolerance
We do not enter engagements, or terminate them, if we are not honestly and
fully informed or - in any way and to any avail - manipulated.
